Outreach and Mission
Angel Tree Ministry
The Angel Tree Ministry is a prison fellowship program that connects parents in prison with their children through the delivery of Christmas gifts. The church receives names of children who are signed up by their mother or father in prison. Nametags of these children and gift suggestions are displayed on the Christmas tree located in the church parlor in November with return of the gifts about 2 weeks before Christmas.
Baby Bottle Coin Bank Drive
Each year, beginning Mother's Day and ending Father's Day, our church collects change in Baby Bottles. Baby bottles are placed in the pews and the congregation is asked to take the bottles home and fill them with change/cash/checks to benefit Chrysalis, a shelter and transitional program for abused women and their children in Meriden. Chrysalis services the Cheshire, Meriden and Wallingford communities.
Cheshire Food Drive
The Cheshire Food Drive will hold its 43rd annual collection of non-perishable food items on our church Green. A trailer parked on Church Drive is the drop off location for all donations that will help stock the shelves of the Cheshire Community Food Pantry. Food and monetary donations provide direct help to families in need in the town of Cheshire.
Outreach weekends provide opportunities for all members of the congregation to help those in need in Cheshire and surrounding communities. These weekends have included doing yard work, volunteering at local shelters, providing programs at Elim Park and doing small home repair projects. In the past, Outreach weekends have been held in the spring and/or fall, depending on need.
Salt and Light Grants
“You are the light of the world; you are the salt of the earth.”
Salt & Light grants give financial support to members and friends of our church, to allow them to carry out a passion for service and helping others in our community and around the world, in ways they may not be able to accomplish without the support. These grants are intended to fund the hands-on work for caring for our neighbors.
On the last Monday of every month our church brings bag dinners and clothing to the New Haven Green as part of multi-church ministry to area homeless called “Midnight Run.” A sign up sheet is posted mid-month in the lobby area for needed food items. You may also donate used men’s clothing, including winter coats, hats and gloves. New white socks and underwear are always appreciated.
Weekly Food Donations
Each Sunday our church welcomes your donations of non-perishable foods in specially marked baskets and bins in the parlor and by the front doors. All foods collected are then given to the Cheshire Food Pantry and Greater Waterbury Interfaith Ministries, while boxed cereal goes to FISH in New Haven for an up to date list of current food needs, go to Cheshirefoodpantry.org
